Direct Access to Our Hygienists
Until 1st May 2013, if you wanted to make an appointment with a dental hygienist you would have to see a dentist first. However, this rule has now changed and so you can now book directly with a dental hygienist If your dentist does not have an hygienist, or you’re not a member at a dental practice yet but would like to book a private hygienist appointment, then please call us on 0161 973 0565
If our hygienist notices that you may need other general dental treatment, she’ll refer you back to your general dentist with the findings. Direct access hygiene appointments do not constitute ‘registration or membership’ with the practice and we cannot guarantee to provide emergency treatment to non-registered patients. If you are not registered with a practice, or would like to change your dentist, Maple Dentalcare would welcome you as a patient, please book in for a new patient consultation with one of our Dentists.
The Role of the Hygienist/Therapist
Dental therapists play an important part in dental health care and are mainly concerned with gum health – showing people correct home care and helping to keep the teeth and gums healthy.
Regular professional cleaning, combined with looking after your teeth and gums well at home, will help keep your mouth healthy. A clean and healthy mouth will improve your appearance, help you to keep your teeth and give you fresh breath.
Carefully removing the hard deposits of tartar (or ‘calculus’) that build up on the teeth and teaching you how to prevent them coming back, will go a long way towards slowing the progress of gum disease.
By talking to you about your diet, and recommending other preventive measures, the dental therapist can help you keep to a routine that will slow down the rate at which your teeth decay. Regular visits and advice will help build your confidence in keeping your mouth healthy.
In addition our therapists can carry out fillings for adults and children and can extract deciduous (baby) teeth.
